Effective Dates of Coverage Producers can request an effective date for their CAARP or Low Cost clients, but must follow certain rules before any requested effective date will be honored. Failure to comply with these effective date rules will always result in the requested effective date being changed to 12:01 AM the day after receipt in CAARP's office. There are two different ways for a producer to propose an effective date of coverage through CAARP or the LCA Program:
Electronic Effective Date Procedure (EEDP) The EEDP is a system where the producer calls a toll-free number to request an effective date for their CAARP private passenger, CAARP commercial (CAIP) or Low Cost client. Only after the application is fully completed, signed by the insured and the producer, and drivers' license(s) and registration(s) are copied and the check or money order is completed and ready to be mailed with the application should the producer make the call. The producer has up to 24 hours to place the EEDP call after last signature date, however it is recommended that the EEDP phone call be placed while the client is in the office. The producer can request either an immediate effective date or a future effective date up to 15 days. To use the EEDP the producer must: Step by Step Prompts
After entering all the requested information, the EEDP system will provide a 15-digit reference number and the effective date and time. This information should be indicated in the Effective Date Section of the application.
EASi (Electronic Application Submission Interface) EASi is a simple, cost effective way for producers to complete, quote and submit automobile application data electronically to CAARP via the Internet. The resulting electronic version of the completed application must be printed, signed, and mailed to CAARP together with the premium deposit payment and any other supporting documentation and/or forms required. EASi is available for both the CAARP private passenger and commercial applications and the CA Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program. EASi allows the producer to request either an immediate effective date or a future effective date. When using EASi, the producer does not need to bind coverage via the Electronic Effective Date Procedure (EEDP) telephone binding. Only certified producers can submit application information via EASi. Once certified, CAARP will issue a username and password to either an individual producer, who has no agency affiliation, or to an agency. The individual or agency information listed below will pre-fill onto the Producer of Record section on the application:
How does EASi work? To access EASi log into the applicable website:
At these websites producers will find information on the basic system requirements as well as step-by-step instructions for submitting application data through EASi. After a producer logs into EASi using their unique EASi username and password, they will choose which application they want to use, CA Private Passenger, CA Low Cost or CA Commercial. The producer chooses the application from a drop down menu. Advantages of using EASi
Effective Dates Will Not Be Honored Remember, if you don't use the EEDP or EASi, or use it incorrectly, your requested effective date will be changed to 12:01 AM DAY AFTER RECEIPT in CAARP's office. How to Void an EEDP or EASi Effective Date If an application has gone though the Electronic Effective Date Procedure or EASI but the applicant decides against buying the insurance, the EEDP/EASi reference number must be retracted (voided). If it is not, the system will continue to look for the number and if not matched to an application, will generate an "Unmatched Reference Number" letter. Unmatched Reference Numbers are monitored by the Plan office. A retraction form should also be completed if an error was made in the EEDP/EASi procedure and the producer wants re-enter the information.
